Could this be the role for you?
We are looking for someone who is kind, practical and willing to learn, to join our Technology Team as an IT Support Assistant. You do not need to arrive knowing everything. You do need to listen carefully, explain things clearly and stay calm when someone needs help.
This is not just a role about fixing laptops, passwords and printers. It is about helping employees and volunteers feel confident using the technology they rely on every day. Guided by our values of Kindness, Respect, Innovation and Inclusivity, you will help people with different levels of digital confidence feel supported, included and able to do their work well.
What we are looking for
- We are interested in your attitude as much as your experience. You may already have some IT knowledge, or you may be looking for your first real step into an IT role. What matters is that you are calm, curious, organised and willing to learn.
- You will need to be comfortable helping people who may have very different levels of confidence with technology. That means being patient, respectful and able to explain things in a way that makes sense to the person in front of you.
- You will also be encouraged to spot small improvements, ask whether something could work better and help us make technology easier to use across the Hospice and our retail sites.
Why join us?
Technology is essential to the way we care for patients, support families, work with volunteers and run our services. As part of a small and busy team, your work will make a real difference every day.
We can teach systems, processes and technical skills. We cannot teach kindness, curiosity or the ability to make someone feel supported. If you can bring those things, along with attention to detail and the confidence to ask questions when you are not sure, we would like to hear from you.
Please do not rule yourself out because you do not meet every desirable criterion. If you have the right attitude, the ability to learn and a commitment to providing a helpful and professional service, this could be the role for you.
This is a part-time, fixed-term role (initially for 6 months). The successful candidate will need to be able to work until 5pm on their working days, so that we can provide IT support at the end of the working day. We are happy to discuss how the hours are arranged, including whether they are worked over four or five days each week.
At St Michael’s Hospice we offer:
- A friendly, team orientated work environment
- A good pension scheme with the option to continue any existing NHS pension scheme membership
- An Employee Assistance Programme (Benenden Healthcare)
- Up to 33 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Subsidised employee meals and free refreshments
- Free parking
- Supportive supervision along with a proactive Education Department to support with your development.
- Hospice employees also qualify for a Blue Light Card with access to a huge array of discounts.
Please note CVs will not be accepted, unless candidates are unable to complete the application form due to a disability, in which case please contact the HR Team.
Please note if a vacancy is part-time the salary will be pro rata.
