Overview
The IT Consultant at Roadmap IT Ltd will take full ownership of managing and maintaining our clients’ IT systems and processes, acting as their IT Manager. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you will oversee IT strategy, security, and operational continuity, ensuring all systems are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- IT Policies – Develop and maintain IT policies across client environments, ensuring IT systems reflect the IT policies.
- IT Budget – Oversee and plan budgeting for IT systems, hardware, software, and projects
- Onboarding & Offboarding – Manage end-to-end onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring secure and efficient setup or removal of access and devices.
- Hardware Lifecycle Review – Monitor and manage the lifecycle of client hardware, from procurement to replacement and decommissioning.
- Business Continuity Plan – Maintain and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure minimal operational disruption.
- Access Control Review – Regularly review and manage access rights to ensure security and compliance.
- Gap Analysis – Identify gaps in IT systems, processes, and security measures, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Cyber Security Awareness Training – Plan and deliver cybersecurity training to client teams to strengthen security culture and reduce risk.
- Site Visit Logs – Document all client activity, site visits, and work performed to maintain accurate records
- Technical Documentation – Ensure that all technical documentation is comprehensive, accurate, and up to date.
Client-Facing Responsibilities
- Act as the client’s IT Manager, providing technical leadership and proactive development.
- Ensure client data is protected, backed up, and compliant with relevant security standards (These vary but could include Cyber Essentials+, ISO27001, SOC2).
- Maintain and update documentation, technical procedures, and system knowledge.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and other technical suppliers.
- Undertake IT projects, upgrades, and new system installations with appropriate planning, rollback procedures, and approval.
- Provide training, support, and guidance to client teams, ensuring prompt resolution of issues.
Requirements
- Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proven experience in IT management or consulting
- Strong knowledge of IT systems, hardware, software, and security best practices.
- Experience managing budgets, vendors, and IT projects.
- Comfortable working in client-facing roles and managing multiple client environments.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as ISO27001, SOC2, or Cyber Essentials+ is desirable.
Technical Expertise
- Apple-centric environments (Apple Business, macOS, iOS, JumpCloud, Kandji).
- Windows & Server/Active Directory, Linux, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace.
- Networking, cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud), and storage solutions.
- Knowledge of IT security principles, access control, and business continuity systems.
Additional Information
- Travel to client sites (primarily London-based) will be required. Occasional national or international travel may be necessary.
- Out-of-pocket expenses for travel outside London will be reimbursed.
