Supporting skills. Creating Careers
This is where hospitality becomes real.
In our restaurant, students don’t just learn about service — they experience it in action. Your role is to make sure that environment runs smoothly, safely and to the high standards expected in the industry.
You’ll work behind the scenes and on the floor, preparing the restaurant, supporting live service and helping students understand what professional front-of-house work really looks and feels like.
From setting tables and supporting service flow, to maintaining presentation standards and ensuring guests have a positive experience, you’ll help create a working restaurant environment where students can learn through doing — and where standards matter.
You’ll also work directly with learners during service, helping them build confidence, communication skills and professionalism under real pressure. Some will be serving their first guests. Others will be refining skills that lead into careers in hospitality, events, hotels or customer service.
If you’ve worked in hospitality and understand the pace, detail and discipline it takes to deliver a great service, this is a chance to bring that experience into a role that shapes future professionals
What you'll do
- Support the set-up and smooth running of restaurant lunch and evening services.
- Prepare and maintain a clean, welcoming and professional dining environment.
- Support table setup, service flow and guest experience during live service.
- Ensure front-of-house equipment and service areas are clean, safe and ready for use.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages of service items.
- Support students during live service, offering calm, practical guidance.
- Help learners develop hospitality, communication and teamwork skills.
- Maintain high standards of presentation, hygiene and customer service.
- Respond professionally to customer feedback and service issues.
- Support a safe, compliant environment following food hygiene and safety procedures.
What you'll bring
- Experience working in a restaurant, hospitality or customer service environment.
- A good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety (Level 2 Food Hygiene desirable).
- Experience supporting or supervising others in a service environment (desirable).
- A strong understanding of customer service and front-of-house standards.
- Confidence working in a fast-paced, live service environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Attention to detail and pride in presentation and standards.
What you're like
- Customer-focused. You care about creating a great guest experience.
- Calm. You stay steady when service is busy and fast-moving.
- Professional. You model high standards in behaviour and presentation.
- Supportive. You help students build confidence in real service situations.
- Organised. You keep service areas running smoothly and consistently.
- Observant. You notice issues early and respond before they escalate.
- Team-minded. You work closely with colleagues to deliver a consistent service.
Essentials
- Enhanced DBS check required.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
- Ability to work flexible shifts across a rota, including early starts and occasional evenings.
- Ability to work across catering sites when required.
Why work for us
At Wigan & Leigh College, our restaurant is more than a teaching space — it’s a live working environment.
Every service is an opportunity for students to learn how hospitality really works: the pressure, the pace, the standards and the teamwork it takes to succeed.
Your role is what makes that possible. You help create a professional, welcoming environment where students learn by doing and develop the confidence to step into real roles in restaurants, hotels and wider hospitality careers.
You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in getting the detail right and supporting learners to succeed in practical, meaningful ways.
