Supporting skills. Creating Careers
This isn’t just kitchen support. It’s the environment where future chefs, bakers and hospitality professionals learn what “good” actually looks like.
In this role, you’ll work behind the scenes in our kitchen and bakery facilities, making sure everything is ready, safe and running properly so students can focus on developing real, hands-on food production skills.
From weighing ingredients and preparing equipment to maintaining hygiene standards and supporting live practical sessions, you’ll help create a working environment that feels like a real industry kitchen. When everything is set up right, students don’t just complete a task — they learn how to work to professional standards.
You’ll also work directly with learners and staff during practical sessions, helping students build confidence, accuracy and discipline in their craft. The small things you do every day make a big difference to the quality of their learning experience.
If you’ve worked in a kitchen, bakery or catering environment and understand the importance of precision, safety and organisation, this is a chance to bring that experience into a role that directly supports the next generation of hospitality professionals.
What you'll do
- Support the daily running of kitchen and bakery practical sessions.
- Prepare, weigh and measure ingredients accurately for teaching and production.
- Set up equipment and workspaces for lessons, demonstrations and practical activity.
- Keep food stored, labelled and handled safely at all times.
- Maintain clean, safe and well-organised production areas.
- Clean, maintain and prepare kitchen and bakery equipment for use.
- Ensure ovens, mixers and specialist equipment are used safely and correctly.
- Monitor stock levels and support ordering, deliveries and stock rotation.
- Carry out routine safety checks and support food hygiene compliance.
- Work alongside staff and students during practical sessions, offering guidance and support where needed.
- Help create a positive, professional and disciplined learning environment.
What you'll bring
- Experience working in a kitchen, bakery or catering production environment.
- A good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and safe working practices.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to achieve this).
- Experience handling ingredients, equipment and food preparation processes.
- An understanding of HACCP and allergen awareness (desirable).
- Experience supporting learners or working in a training environment (desirable).
- Strong practical skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work accurately, safely and consistently in a busy environment.
What you're like
- Practical. You’re comfortable working hands-on in a busy kitchen or bakery.
- Precise. You care about accuracy in preparation, timing and quality.
- Reliable. You complete tasks properly and take pride in getting things right.
- Supportive. You enjoy helping others learn and build confidence.
- Organised. You keep workspaces, stock and preparation under control.
- Calm. You stay steady in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
- Safety-focused. You understand the importance of hygiene, structure and safe working.
Essentials
- Enhanced DBS check required.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
- Ability to work flexible shifts across a rota, including early starts and occasional evenings.
- Ability to work across catering sites when required.
