Senior Network Engineer - Band N - Technology CSC - Counter Terrorism Policing HQ
Salary: The starting salary is £61,410, which includes allowances totalling £8,757.
The salary is broken down as £ 52,653 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £57,417. Plus, a 12.5% shift disturbance allowance, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Based near Birmingham, close to transport connections, our CSC supports national police services 24/7. As the Centre expands thanks to substantial investment, our team is growing too. Join us, and you’ll be part of a highly skilled technical team working on incidents, problems and changes at our ITIL-aligned CSC.
Supporting national live services and infrastructure, you’ll tackle both operational and project-related tasks, expertly managing your workload. You’ll also get involved in building new systems and services with the latest networking technologies.
As the centre operates 24/7, you’ll be part of a team of engineers covering 7am to 7pm weekdays (on call, approximately 1 week in 4). Due to the nature of the systems, the role is office-based with occasional options for working from home. Furthermore, the shift structure for this role allows for working compressed hours over a 4-day week.
Key Tasks
The post holder will be required to do the following:
- Provide technical support for National infrastructure relating to business as usual (BAU) and projects to ensure objectives are being met in line with CTP priorities.
- A focus on improving internal systems
- Ensure personal workload is effectively managed, prioritised and issues are escalated to line management as necessary.
- Ensure Adherence to required polices, standards, controls and best practice.
- Ensure SLAs for services are met.
- Create and maintain technical documentation to ensure all services are maintained and knowledge is shared.
- Proactively maintain and update the infrastructure to ensure security and reliability.
- Proactively monitor environments to help prevent issues arising.
- Ensure security procedures are followed, to comply with the relevant accreditation, procedures and/or guidance.
- Support and mentoring of other members of the team to build a strong support service.

- Experience of VOIP and video conferencing.
- Experience of converged infrastructure / network virtualisation.
- Experience of network design and documentation.
- Experience of load balancer technologies.
- Experience of network hardening and security best practice.
- Experience of PKI and encryption technologies.
- Experience of failover testing, resilience and redundancy methodology.
- Experience of working within a ITIL service environment working to defined metrics and SLAs.
- Preferred Cisco CCNP equivalent qualified.
